Do you ever get frustrated with trying to find a crew? It has been a long time since Hampton has had a really active single handed fleet, it would be great if we could build one up again. Nigel cooper and I are trying but we need some more of you to join the fold. The solo really is a joy to sail across all the wind ranges, and being the down season there are some great bargains to be had at the moment. For club sailing you really wouldn't need to spend four figure sums on the latest winder plastic fantastic Frp offering there are some great wooden (like mine) and GRP ( like Nigel's) boats out there to be had at bargain prices. The solo is great as your main boat, or even one to keep in reserve on the church land for those non crew days. If anyone wants to try one out before taking the plunge I would (and I am sure Nigel would) love you to take one of ours out for a spin, you will be hooked I promise! Take a look at the solo website the for sale list is constantly being updated, there are also quite a few on Apollo duck web site. Thanks for reading, it would be fab to have a few more solos in the handicap fleet this year. Hopefully see you on the water in March, Hywel www.solosailing.org.uk/fs/fs_list.asp

Ah....now if I was still there I would consider doing this, it seems like a good idea....Kate would do it too, reckon she would love to sail a boat where the helm didnt dunk her in the drink every couple of minutes....Eng v France on TV tomorrow, happy days...have the Welsh given up already? Cheers, Mike Hendy Boston, MA

No Mike Wales haven't given up! We have just been late coming to the party. You'd be welcomed with open arms into the solo fleet when/if you return to the UK. Hope all is going well in the US, H

It's great that this topic has had over 50 views in only a few days, so is anyone considering a solo yet?

Which is what I am going to do. But I have to sell my Versa first. I'm after a good second hand Winder for £4000 in the region of..... Do you know who fits towing bars for next to nothing? Unless the vendor delivers. Do they as a general rule? Probably not.

That's brilliant news Dave, Tam leisure in new Malden is one of the cheapest places around for tow bars. Some people may help deliver but they would need to be local. There is a large fleet in Ripley that sail at papercourt. Mine came from Hayling Island. It's always good to have a tow bar on your car though..much more effective at saving the rear bumper than parking sensors!

Dave, Have a look at the solo website. A cheap winder has just come up for sale at papercourt so very local. May well be worth a phonecall.

Have bought. No trailer though. Do you have a Solo trailer with yours? No hurry as I've secured it with a deposit. So he's keeping it at Papercourt. Now I have to sell a Versa, the ad campaign for which doesn't roll out till 8th April.

Amazing news, congrats Dave! Mine sits on a road trailer on the Island, you are welcome to borrow the base to move it if you want. So that is now three of us in the fleet, it's growing steadily...Is anyone else keen to join the fold? I've been working on Gareth over the winter, I don't think he'll take much more convincing :-)

This seems like a decent club racer for not a huge amount of money (only £550ono), a good sail, road trailer and a local seller. Who else can we tempt to join the ever expanding fleet? www.apolloduck.co.uk/advert.phtml?id=297869
